NIT Rourkela is a self-governing technical university that was founded in 1961. It includes 20 departments, around 7700 students, 390+ academic members, and 350+ staff members. Located on 648 acres, it is an independent technological university recognized by the NBA. This organization, which receives funding from the Indian government, is acknowledged as an Institute of National Importance. The most popular degree at university is the B.Tech programme, to which admission is determined by the JEE Main exam and JoSAA counselling. In 2023, the general category JEE mains cutoff for the B.Tech program ranged from 4218 to 83330 rank. The M.Tech program is based on GATE scores, and in 2023, the last round of cutoffs for the program varied from 350 to 549. The most competitive specialization was M.Tech VLSI Design and Embedded Systems, with a score of 549. Furthermore, NIMCET scores are used to determine admission to M.Sc programs. For 2023, the overall cutoff for IIT JAM was 96-1138 rank.

University received an average package of INR 13.89 LPA and the highest package of INR 83.60 LPA, with a 95% placement percentage and 1326 job offers given. The median package for university MBA, M.Tech, and B.Tech programs in 2023 was INR 5 LPA, INR 10 LPA, and INR 12.5 LPA, respectively. 24 students received a package of more over INR 50 LPA. Admissions 2024 for B.Tech at University

The main course offered by university is a 4-year B.Tech program. The B.Tech program, which provides 14 specializations, admits students based on their JEE Mains result and JoSAA counseling. The program has an admission capacity of 354 seats and total fees of INR 8.22 lakhs. University has been ranked 16th in 2023 and 15th in 2022 by the NIRF Engineering Ranking. On the basis of the results of the LEET exam, the institute also grants admissions for lateral entrance into the B.Tech program.
